Women Walking Alone, and Introducing Jem Sternhall (Updated)

UPDATE:  As promised, you can find all of the photo collection in full size in this Flickr album.  Several are wallpaper size!

Women Walking Alone

“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places where no one has ever been before.” — Albert Einstein

The problem with Einstein’s statement is that he was a great physicist, but he sucked at the human heart.  Everyone knows the man for E=mc2, but he was also something of a serial philanderer, and so never really understood the need for good relationships.

I’ve chosen to do the other thing.  I’m cautious, but I’ve formed friendships, or at least good acquaintances, with several people in world over the years:  Tegg Bode, my store landlord for years and the only stainless-steel kangaroo I’ve ever known; Her Grace, Eva Bellambi, late the 2nd Duchess of Loch Avie; Nanceee Sinatra, still running her fabulous saloons through the Frank’s Entertainment Group; Harper Beresford, who I play games with in the Fashion Emergency group at times when we’re answering questions; and, of course, my first friends in Second Life, Cajsa Lilliehook and Gidge Uriza.

Allow me to present --

To that number, I now add Jem Sternhall, whom I helped convince to join Second Life!  Jemmy’s been looking for a way to do some creative work, and I suggested the Grid to her, and have been helping her get going for a while.  (And yes, she chose to name herself after that Jem — who I like as well.  Let’s face it — me and my friend are Jem girls!)  It’s difficult to see what she looks like through all this costume, but she’s started working on her profile, and here’s a photo she took of herself from my.secondlife.com.

Fooling around -- Conan tries for a closeup on Harper

Jemmy did this snapshot of me here, along with Conan Bankersbox, who was photographing the remainder of the sim for the landscape-art portion of this article.  Conan was trying to get a closeup here of me, but something happened and the file got “scrogged,” according to him.  Perhaps in future (grin).

This triumvirate is trying something I haven’t attempted before:  an artistic cooperative, sharing our work together and publishing it here, as well as on Flickr for myself and Jem.  (Conan figures he’s overconnected already, so to speak, but he’s willing to funnel his photos through me.)  You’ve already seen some of the work in my previous article, shot in Majilis al Jinn.  I’ll tell you, Conan’s a good dancer, at least when given the right pose balls (grin).  But, any road, you’ll see at least more duo shots here in Around the Grid if our plans work out.  It’s also a matter of coordinating RL schedules, especially during the Christmas season if we want to do something now; and that, as my father might have said, can be a nickel-plated–  Well, you get the idea.

For this first run, we have enough material between us to make for a rather long (and slow to load) article, so I’ll just place the entire collection into a slideshow gallery here on the blog.  Give me between a few hours and a day or so, and I’ll have the whole suite up — in full size! — on Flickr, along with descriptions, and I’ll add the address in an update at the top of this article.

We are definitely walking alone here in these costumes, from a gacha at the Fantasy Gacha event (more about that below).  Both Jemmy and I love exotic stuff, the more out there the better in many ways, and these catsuits, combined with appropriate makeup and hairstyles, and placed in an appropriate setting, fill the bill quite nicely.  The region, incidentally, is the current exhibition at LEA15 — curious, and rather without obvious explanation.  You can’t help but have your attention caught by it when you visit, but we leave it to you to put together the pieces and derive your meaning from it.  Two or three have occurred to me, none of them incredibly easy….

A fair warning to the Resident:
I both love and loathe gachas, at least the ones that make you spend horrendous amounts of money to pick up the whole outfit. The costumes we’re wearing, E.V.E’s Atlantis, are just the common parts of an insanely hard gacha.  I’ve dumped thousands into this particular one-armed bandit, and only recently have I managed to pick up some of the ultrarares — specifically, the boots that match a couple of the special color combinations, which are themselves set to “rare.”  One of them is the silver that I’m wearing, and the same boots could go with Jem’s outfit; she simply has red accents in the fabric.  I’ve finally called a halt to my playing this gacha, though I have plenty of cash on hand.  It doesn’t make sense to be dumping that many lindens into this machine.  However, the bodysuit and catsuit are very easy to get; I promise you that!  I’ve included the landmark in the details below. If you want to save even more money, drop me a notecard in world or a comment on this article, and I’ll give you a copy out of my backstock. Don’t worry about availability; it should last for a while….
