Revisiting Byron

Writing the previous article reminded me of a piece I wrote back in 2013, close to this time of the year, in fact (I published it on August 31). It had been about the time of the 2013 Black Fair, and Pure Poison … who were making clothing instead of shoes back then … had just released this lovely gown, all glittering sequins and a netting overgown that melted my buyer’s resistance into a puddle of goo. I just about titled that last article the same thing as six years ago; fortunately, I recalled the previous, and found another poem, by a poet I’ve loved for years, Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Looking back on those photos, I felt that here was another set that could use some upgrading and improvement, now that I have a better computer, and better in-world goodies. And, fortunately, I hadn’t tossed out either the gown or the wig in my occasional cleanouts of my Inventory. Except for the advent of Bakes On Mesh (which I don’t have the appropriate gadgets for yet), I would have had a hard time coming close to duplicating the old makeup palette … were it not that I use LAQ heads, with three layers for eyeshadow (and two for lipstick). With a little experimentation, I achieved the look I wanted.

With black and silver, you can use anything as a contrasting color. I originally chose blue (which I stuck with here), and decided to “wig out” with a funky hairstyle from The Stringer Mausoleum. I added to it with one of my layered makeup palettes, and found a fantastic location in the tail end of Caledon Cymru to shoot the photos.

Caledon Cymru is still there, but the fountain doesn’t have the same lighting effects going on as six years ago, so I chose a fresh location to revisit my work and bring it forward. New body, new face (perhaps a tad more innocent-looking than the face back in 2013, to fit the poem better), but the same gown and hair (both, sadly, now vintage to my best search efforts).

New jewelry, too. Yula Finesmith was good six years ago, but she’s no longer producing new stuff, and I decided I wanted a change. This is a closeup of the earrings in this set from Zuri Rayna; you can see the necklace in the first photo.
