I Just Barely Made the Clothing Fair

…and look at what I picked up!

This gown, Topaz by Tres Beau, was the one major purchase I made, my single RFL contribution purchase.  I’m not even sure if Tres Beau is carrying this in their store now; it may have been only for the event.  But it’s a great piece of work — not perfect, but still great in many ways.

Besides all the romantic prim ruffles of the dress itself, it has this lovely evening cape.  I think this is what made me unlimber my purse in the first place.  Have you ever seen a little movie with Renée Zellweger and Ewan MacGregor called Down with Love?  It was a love note to the frothy romantic comedies of Doris Day and Rock Hudson of the Fifties and Sixties, and the characters, especially Renée and her co-star, Sarah Paulson, get to dress in the most fabulous stuff.  One scene has them entering a restaurant in these absolutely extravagant, heavy taffeta evening coats with puffy collars and mermaid hems:

This is the best shot I could find, from a copy on YouTube.  (I seem to have lost my own copy of the DVD.)  In a second or two, both Renée and Sarah will get the cue, and throw those coats open as they Make an Entrance into the restaurant.  If this SL gown’s wrap had a collar like that, I’d love to have an animation where I could just pull that trick, and let the cape just de-rezz back into inventory as I sashay in to Frank’s Place or something similar.

Here’s the gown without the cape.  Don’t you just love those prim ruffles running down the front?  The two things I could wish for were a richer texture on the gown and a deeper gold color; but otherwise, I’d say Kimmera Madison has got it spot on here.  Especially with details like the jeweled bow at the edge of the strapless bodice.  (Digression:  how many gowns have you seen in Second Life that weren’t strapless?)

This photo also gives you a look at the hairstyle I chose, and the delicious jewelry that I picked up at the Accessory Fair.  I have two more wishes, I find:  that the Clothing Fair lasted longer, and that they had waited a month after the Accessory Fair.  That would have given me time to do more buying!
