I’ve been wound up with outside affairs this past few weeks, and I just managed to squeeze in a run through this year’s Fantasy Faire. There were several extremely creative regions this time through, and I snapped my favorite views in photos, so to preserve their memory and share it with others.

There will be two sections here; the first is a gallery of landscapes, while the second shows what I wore, built mostly from offerings at the various vendors. You can click on the gallery for larger views, and there’s a link at the bottom for full size. (Some of these are 1920 wallpapers.)

I’d finished the posing for my last article — well, I had to get myself into the stadium somehow in Second Life as well as real life, and that takes some photographic tricks — and was taking the time to meet with Jem, to discuss the next piece she was planning on.  (You’re seeing a sneak peek here.)  We were talking about where might be a good place to pose, when there was an almighty whoosh of air, coming out of the cavern entrance I use as a teleport point for the temple platform we were at.

Taking a peek inside the cavern, we found something what didn’t belong there — a big glowing ball of blue radiance.  A little scary looking; but, being reckless, uh, curious women, we walked carefully forward into the blue mist.

Last year, during my “rookie” period (lol), Harper introduced me to Fantasy Faire. Beyond the good work that will be done for the American Cancer Society, this event, maybe the biggest in Second Life each year, is just plain fun. I loved roaming around in costume last year, from full kimono to barbarian princess. In fact, the barbarian princess mode I was in was my inspiration for some of the costumes I’ve shot myself in since.

As of today (March 31), there’s 20 days until the gates between worlds open once more. Start saving your money, put together your most fantastic costume, and drop in beginning on April 20. Harper, Conan and I’ll be doing our usual photo work, as well as coming up with fresh costumes from what we pick up in the fifteen regions of the Faire. And, when you can, be generous in your giving to the Relay for Live vendors or kiosks. Cancer is something that’s touched almost all of us in one way or another, both in RL and in lost SL friendships.

Where has your interrupted, ah, intrepid demon reporter been this past week or more?  Walking — walking around all 13 bleedin’ sims of Fantasy Faire 2015.  One of the top SL Relay for Life events, this year’s Fantasy Faire was bigger, more colorful and more fun than ever, running the gamut of the Four Elements and showing off the creativity of Second Life builders and designers more than ever.  I know this because I covered almost every blessed meter of it on foot, in heels.  Oh, my achin’ dogs!!!

Okay, okay, I did my share of flying…and swimming, too.  I was even frozen in a block of ice for a time, until someone let it go.  (Let it go, let it go!!!!! [THWAP!!!])

Uh….  My lawyers advise me that, before I get myself into trouble with certain people with large black ears and a tail, I’d better just change topic.  So, I took a scad of photos, all of which can be found at my Flickr stream in a special album, as well as in their Fantasy Faire group.  (The last few will be going into the group tomorrow because of submission restrictions.)  To tempt you into checking out the collection, here’s about five or six of them, after the fold.  Most of the photos, by the way, are at 1920×1080, which makes them excellent wallpaper size for modern monitors.  Feel free to use for non-commercial purposes, just keep my signature on it.

Fashion for Life 2014 is open, with 10 sims to explore and shop in — but there’s an eleventh that may not be as visited as the others.  Most of the FFL events have a sim laid aside for the recipients of the monies raised during the largest charity event in Second Life, the American Cancer Society.  ACS’ people build exhibits and information sources, and other venues within their region to more fully speak about what all the fun and fashion is for during this period.  Following are pictures from this year’s ACS region, which I suggest you visit as well as the other 10.

If you haven’t yet popped in to any of the Science Fiction Alliance’s Sci-Fi Convention, do so as soon as possible.  The last day is June 8, so you won’t have gobs of time to attend, but it isn’t too hard on the feet to go to this con.

There’s an excellent tram system that crosses through all six sims of the con, and flying is permitted — quite logical in a sci-fi world (grin).  Don’t come loaded down with linden dollars, though, aside from making contributions to the American Cancer Society — this is a Relay for Life event, after all.  (Speaking of which, if you’ll look at the east side of the map, you’ll see the Fashion for Life sims are going up; it’s almost time for this leader in the charity events to begin, so watch the calendars for the announcement.)

Some pictures I took while running around this year’s Fantasy Faire — which, according to Daniel Voyager, has pulled in well over L$5.5 million for this year’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  You may want to check the SLurls and see if the regions are still up, if you didn’t take the time to tour them before; they were still open yesterday as I tried to finish my own tour.

So what’s New for 2012?

It’s time again for one of the top charity events in Second Life.

Fashion for Life is the longest running and most successful fashion fair in Second Life and marks the annual start of the official Relay for Life events that take place in world each year.  All donations are given directly to the Relay for Life general fund, which benefits the American Cancer Society and its thousands of beneficiaries who rely on the charity for support and advice.

Fashion for Life is a hundred percent not for profit, and all organisation, building work and coordination are driven by the work of its volunteers which helps to maximise donated money.

This year, Fashion for Life spans an incredible ten lag free sims, with over 200 stores selling the latest fashions, accessories, hair and unique designer items made especially for this event. There will also be gacha areas, a hunt, a raffle and a SALE — all with the end goal of raising funds for the American Cancer Society via Second Life.

The sims will be laid out in a cross formation and will represent the theme “Its Time…” with builds representing stages in time:  past, present, future and timeless. All building and landscaping have been created by some of SL’s top designers and builders to produce a beautiful environment for your charity shopping sprees!

Alongside the fabulous fashion, there will be a sim dedicated to providing a minimum of 12 hours entertainment and activities every day, so you can socialise, have fun, and meet new people too.

Our sims have been kindly sponsored by Dream Seeker Estate Corporation, which has drastically reduced administration expenses, helping to free up even more money for Relay for Life.

Harper Beresford, Fashion for Life lead executive says, “Fashion for Life is not just about fashion and it’s not just about fund raising — it’s about supporting the members of our community in Second Life who have been touched by cancer.”  Cancer touches everyone.
