SL11B Has Begun!

Checking Out the View

Here I am checking out the view across a region or two — it’s hard to tell for sure this year! — at SL11B, Second Life’s 11th anniversary celebration.  The whole shebang stretches across eight sims, and is packed with exhibitions from individuals and groups.  Make sure to take in at least a little of this annual virtual world’s fair and birthday party; it only lasts until June 29!  It’s best to wear something much lower in lag factor than I have on right now (I goofed on that factor, to my sorrow), and be prepared for all sorts of surprises!

Happy happy for Strawberry Singh

It’s my Rezday!, originally uploaded by Strawberry Singh.

It’s Strawberry Singh’s 5th rezz day.  Berry, as she’s known to all and sundry, has achieved a notable degree of seniority with 5 years in Second Life — model, fashion blogger, photographer and beautiful person inside the avatar.  The pictures of her above show the progression of her looks over those years, from her first months, to her time as a model for Zaara, down to today in the center.

Why not stop by Berry’s blog at the link above, and leave a greeting comment?  Or in other places as well; Berry is one of the most social of the social networkers.  She can be reached at Plurk, Twitter, Google+, you name it.

Ich bin Berliner — Berlin Wall, 50 Years

For years, the Brandenburger Tor, or Brandenburg Gate, was the image of Berlin in the imaginations of people.  Constructed in the late 1700s, it originally served as an actual gate to the city of Berlin, and stood at one end of the Unter den Linden, a monumental avenue of linden trees.

Then came the events of World War II and the Cold War.  The Gate became a symbol of Nazi Germany, and then eventually a symbol of the division of Germany into Western and Communist blocs, focused on Berlin.  And much of it has to do with a wall.

Imagine — For John

Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

In Tribute on D-Day Plus 65 Years

The uniform is from the 101st Airborne Division, one of the airborne groups that led the way into France on June 6, 1944.  To honor those men, including my father, who fought for the liberation of Europe 65 years ago, this photograph is dedicated.
