Saint Patrick’s Day 2011

I always like to do a casual and formal shoot for Saint Patrick’s Day, one of the lovely holidays in world.  This year, besides the computer needing replacing, RL work and home has kept me hopping, and I haven’t been able to do many things I wanted to do.  But I did manage to squeeze in a few fast photos of this beautiful gown very early yesterday….

The dress is from PurpleMoon, and is called Serafina.  It also has a large production-show skirt that I didn’t take the time to fiddle with, but is still beautiful.  For me, this skirt is enough, along with the lovely high collar behind my head.  (I have a thing for dragon-wing collars, I guess….)  The collar is removable, of course, as is the excellent orchid-bloom detail on the breast; but who would want to do away with such niceties?  I used for hair an old ‘do from Sinsation — yes, Sinnocent Mirabeau did do some sane hairstyles during her time in world, and this is one of my nicest short bobs.  Along with this is a new eyeshadow from Miamai, one of their usual package of five at a time.

The jewelry suite of necklace and earrings came, I believe, from last year’s Jewelry Fair; it is by RH Engel, and this is the first time I’ve worn them. (Gotta clean out that inventory sometime…!)  I matched this with….

…a beautiful emerald bracelet from EarthStones, and a big, splashy, Art Deco-like cocktail ring.  Erin go bragh!!

On the Town with Digit Darkes

Okay, where is he??

Okay, where is he??

Don’t you just hate having to stand around waiting for a date to show up?  I was supposed to meet the guy here on the Champs-Élysées for dinner and the show at the Lido.  He’s an hour late now, and I’m about to just throw it over as stupidity and take care of myself.

Ah, well, at least I’m dressed for the night.  This Starlight gown I picked up from Digit Darkes would have been perfect for a night with that guy, though; just the right amount of sophistication and seduction — a lovely strapless top edged in black satin, rustling tulle skirt, and a side slit up to there in just the right place.  Lots of leg, and nothing else; but oh, the sense of invitation….

Ivalde Challenge (Unofficial) — Retro Meets Modern

Beulah Mills of Ivalde has had an invitational challenge going around the fashion SLogosphere lately:  take some of their vintage/retro designs, and show that you can wear them in modern looks.

I didn’t receive a notecard inviting me to give this a shot; I’m not a regular fashion blogger, after all.  But I’m up to a game where I have a chance; it’s fun posing; I have a Secret Studio that just gathers dust when it’s not in use; and I like spending lindens (grin).  For me, the best way to change a look is to mix and match; so, behold.  (You can behold larger versions of the pictures by clicking on the images; I got tired of the tiny gallery images, and did it this way.)

The gown is Retropolitan, which dates to the 1930s.  It has that classic, flowing look and drape of Thirties period dresses that you see in the movies and fashion spreads of the time, and with the touches of extra femininity like the shoulder frills.  The hairstyle is a little sleek for the period I chose, but not too far off the mark.

Now, drop the skirt, shoulders and gloves, add a pair of more modern pants and sneakers, and change the jewelry around, and you get this:

…and you get a perfectly lovely top with maybe a smack of peasanty, crunchy-granola feel to it.  The effect is emphasized here by the Earthstones jewelry, some of my favorite pieces.  A woman would not look unusual at all wearing this on a modern street — indeed, she might just draw some admiration for her fashion sense.
