Story Conference

A few days ago, Jem gave me a shout and asked to meet me at my place to talk blog with the others. Diana and Conan couldn’t make it, but Morgan could, and so we went up to my office at the World-Wide Headquarters of a Blog Known As Around the Grid. “So, you got an idea?” I asked as we got comfortable.

“No,” Jem said. “I have a complaint. We’re missing something in the blog.”

The Lamp of Life

Always we are following a light,
Always the light recedes; with groping hands
We stretch toward this glory, while the lands
We journey through are hidden from our sight

A Beautiful Morning

It’s a beautiful mornin’
I think I’ll go outside a while,
An’ just smile.
Just take in some clean fresh air, boy
Ain’t no sense in stayin’ inside
If the weather’s fine and you got the time.
It’s your chance to wake up and plan another brand new day ….

— “A Beautiful Morning,” by Edward Brigati and Felix Cavaliere

We’ve actually managed to get a lot done this week, and so I rewarded myself with a side trip.  I did a little shopping at the Liaison Collaborative, then went up the stairs to the other, “non-affiliated” areas (shall we call them), and found some nice spots to shoot in while I’m wearing this dress.  I really love Baiastice; in fact, I went to the main store (“Horrors!  You shopped at the main store???“) the other day, and spotted a bunch of things that I’ll snaffle up when I get a chance.  Even lots of the “classic” Standard Sizing items will still work on a mesh body.

Usul Walks Amongst Us Again!

Day 283 / 4751 C. E., Vidran, planet Videra —

A rather neat little café and wine bar had been constructed near Ariel Sherman’s home, and the golden cyborg tried to drop into the place at least once a month.  Normally, top-name entertainers tried to keep their private time to themselves.  Ariel Sherman, CRO, COV, and one of the best-known performing stars in the quadrant, almost always managed to pass her time quietly in this café, whether by herself, with members of her ‘borg family, or friends from town.  Partly, it was because this was Videra, and the laws of the pleasure planet that was Ariel’s home and place of work could be summed up in a sentence:  “Feel free to do whatever you want, so long as it does no harm to yourself or others.”  Native Viderans were apparently taught this in the womb; they were always exquisitely polite, there when you needed help, and otherwise let you live your life in peace and quiet — not antisocial, just understanding that you wanted to pursue your pleasure and had the right to do so without interference.

Which was what Ariel was doing now, sitting in the café alongside Dara Furtano-Fa, her close friend and fellow ‘borg.  The pair were hanging out beside the coffee bar, with frothy drinks in hand or beside them.  Between bouts of conversation, whenever someone passed by carrying a similar beverage, Ariel would smile and exchange a few words of greeting that were distinctly ritualistic in form.  Dara had learned the words instantly, of course, from listening to Ariel and the others, but they meant little to her.  After another lifeform, this one a Zovitchian with lemon-yellow skin and a nearly flat nose in its elongated head, had bowed to them both and clinked his cup against theirs, Dara turned to her mentor and friend and murmured, “And you really don’t know that much about what this is all about?”

Storyboards — Breakup, and Confrontation

None of us have put anything up for days, so I figured I’d add some of my storyboarding sessions from “Thief In the Night,” the story I’m working on in dribs and drabs.  It’s not moving incredibly well in the writing department, partly because of time constraints, partly because of Second Life, and partly because I’ve never written scenes where two women are arguing over a man before.  You’ll see below, in the photos for the “confrontation” section.  As I think I’ve said before, I like to use SL as a platform to work out scenes and dress my characters visually.  It makes it easier to imagine and portray what they look like in any scene when I have an actual visual reference.  So far, the dress designers of Second Life haven’t let me down, or I’ve worked something up into a more futuristic appearance (or at least more glitzy).

Warning:  From here on, it’s graphics intensive, about 15 photos.  I’ve saved them in JPG and shrunk them down, but it will probably still take a bit to load them all, and I’m not really thrilled whenever I use the gallery feature in WordPress (just because I want it all out in the open).  So if you have a slow connection, here be dragons from this point on.

6th Annual Oscar Fashion Photo Contest — Final Update

It’s not going to be over-difficult to judge this year’s OFPC, at least in one sense.  I still have less than 20 entries this year.  If you’ve been trying to make up your mind over entering, it’s time to get off the dime; there’s under a week to go before it closes for this year.  Come on, folks, it’s usually not this difficult to give away money!

=====

Of course, it’s always a tradition for me to show off what I’d wear to the Academy Awards.  Several nice gowns came out just recently, and I was thinking of a group gift from PurpleMoon, to be truthful.  But, in the end, I chose this:

My Oscar Gown 1

Luscious emerald silk from Baiastice in this case, supported halter-style by a gold necklet looped through a slit in the cleavage.  It catches attention with the rich color, the sinuous hugging of my curves, and that little peekaboo right there, and that daring yet demure slit.  And it’s framed in a location that works well for functions like the Oscars — or would if it was real:  the Rose Theatre complex.  This is something of a go-to location for red-carpet photographers, and not just because of the red carpet; it has all these wonderful vistas and long hallways, making for lots of Grand Entrance possibilities.  It was the most often used backdrop in last year’s contest, and the one I chose for my own photos.

My Oscar Gown 4

I was going to wear my usual red hair — one reason I went with green, of course — then threw tradition to the wind on a whim, and went blonde.  The jewelry is from Chop Zuey — Belle Roussel is becoming a tradition for me for evening wear, unless I plop for Lazuri.

My Oscar Gown 5

My best prim lashes — meaning the ones I have the best adjusted to my eyes — are an old set from Miamai.  A little glittery, but that works with evening wear.
