Y is for — Yellow

Y is for Yellow 1

“Okay, what the heck begins with Y in my Inventory?”

(Sounds of clawing through the barely organized pile of sh– uh, crap)

“Pile of Yuck…?  No.”  (Tossing over shoulder with a splat)  “An inflatable Boris Yeltsin…?”  (Smacking her face)  “Why the hell did I buy that thing??”  (POP!)  “A yellow sign?  Hmmm….”  (She turns pensive and stares strangely, wildly, off into the distance at a place no human was meant to see.)  “Is it fated for me to be Queen in lost Carcosa beside the dead lake of Hali, the consort of the dread King in Yellow?–  Wait a minute….  THAT’S IT!!!”

Y is for Yellow 2

I’m pretty sure I’ve worn this before, but it fits the theme:  Baiastice’s Kasia top of studded straps, with the matching shorts below.  This outfit would be even more spectacular if it was in latex or vinyl, to go with the BAX boots I’m wearing on my feet and legs!  (The listing calls the boots patent leather; but we all know better, don’t we…?)

F is for — Furisode

F is for Furisode 1

Furisode (振袖) is Japanese, referring to the extremely long arm style on formal kimono worn by young unmarried women.  I can’t say how many of us in Second Life enjoy walking about in a kimono, but I do on occasion, even putting on “Keiko,” my Asian character from my stories, for the moment (as I have here).  And, since it was time to update the kimono I have in my Inventory, I went to the currently running Japan Fair 2014 to pick up a new one or two, preferably in mesh.  I found this magnificent one in the clothing section, made by AZUL, which is probably really meant for a wedding.  The fabric is all white silk, and it’s in the uchikake style (打掛), with a brocaded “overcoat” over the actual gown and obi sash.

F is for Furisode 3

I went looking for a hairstyle to fit it as well; and I discovered a booth by Tukinowaguma!  I realize that I said in my previous article that this house of fabulously complex hair was moribund, though still open, but it now appears I’m happily mistaken.  Hopefully KateForster Akina is rested and refreshed and ready to kick out lots of new styles for us, both Japanese and western.

Heading Back from Israel Island

Heading Back from Israel Island 1

Here I am at the Israel Island airport/welcome area, waiting for the plane back home to Trinidad region.  It was a pleasant second visit, but it’ll be good to return to familiar ground, as always.  I didn’t want to talk about fashion in the last article; the subject just wasn’t something to admit of fluff that time.  (As you could tell, my memories of that visit to the Holocaust Museum, as well as seeing films about the subject, have stayed strongly with me.)  But now that the serious matter is over, I can indulge here before I head down the boarding ramp.

Read the rest, before I leave on a jet plane.

Get the Party Started

I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started

Morning breaks over the Cafe du Monde in One Quarter French, but I'm still ready to party in this cocktail frock from Osakki, called Chained.

Get this party started on a Saturday night
Everybody’s waiting for me to arrive
Sendin’ out the message to all of my friends
We’ll be looking flashy in my Mercedes Benz
I got lot of style, check my gold diamond rings
I can go for miles if you know what I mean
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started

I discovered this clothing store in the same region as the main store for Rozoregalia. The short, poufy skirt is decorated with gold chains, and flaps of gold lamé on the side, throwing flash and shine about you as you move.

Pumping up the volume, breaking down to the beat
Cruisin’ through the west side
We’ll be checkin’ the scene
Boulevard is freakin’ as I’m comin’ up fast
I’ll be burnin’ rubber, you’ll be kissin’ my ass
Pull up to the bumper, get out of the car
License plate says Stunner #1 Superstar
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started

If you're going to wear the hat that comes along with the dress, make sure you have on a bob hairdo. I found this old classic from W & Y (their Model 25, scripted for all colors).

Making my connection as I enter the room
Everybody’s chilling as I set up the groove
Pumpin’ up the volume with this brand new beat
Everybody’s dancing and they’re dancing for me
I’m your operator, you can call anytime
I’ll be your connection to the party line

I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started
I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started

2010 SL Oscar Fashion Contest: And the Winners Are….

A bit of a cash windfall allowed me to do an unannounced increase in the prizes for my first SL Oscar Fashion Contest!  The first place will receive L$2,500; 2nd, L$2,000; and 3rd, L$1,500.  I’m also going to do four Honorable Mentions, and have decided after checking the bank account that each will receive L$250.

As these things always are, this was not an easy contest to judge.  I had around 50 entries by the time I closed my groups at Flickr and Koinup for the year, including one who entered by leaving a link in the comments to my original contest announcement (a legal form of entry).  Almost all of the entries were good, and many of them were excellent good.  I had to rework the cut three times before I started the judging in real earnest.  And, in the end, 2nd and 3rd place were tied — although any one of the three places might have been worthy of first.

And so my thanks to all, my congratulations to the winners, and I hope you’ll enjoy the shopping spree I’ve just financed for you.  The Accessory Fair is going right now, so there’s a chance to blow the cash in one spot (grin).

Onward to the winners!

Casual Tuesday in Second Life

Most of my fashion sessions are in gowns; and I’ll admit that I love the swirl of silk and satin about me at night.  (Which is a good thing, since Frank’s Place (SLurl, other articles) is my favorite club in Second Life.)  “Gowns” is probably the second largest item in my Inventory after “Hair.”

But let’s face it; it isn’t nighttime all the time.  (Unless you keep your environment settings locked on “sunset” or “evening.”)  You gotta have the sun as well as the moon, the yang as well as the yin.  And you can look just as good in casuals as you can in a floaty Nicky Ree or Baiastice.

There’s a lovely little coffeehouse in Rainforest Isle Estates called the Drip ‘n Grind.  I like to pop in there once in a while when I’m not hanging out of a morning at the Blarney Stone.  Not the place for a gown, most times of the day; it’s not a “rough” neighborhood, of course (who’d set up a coffeehouse in the Badlands?), but this wasn’t anywhere near after-club clubbin’ time, when you’d stop in for a cuppa joe and some pie or eggs Benedict.  So something a little more casual is called for.

Click through for two perfect outfits for daytime.

Sabrina Fair

Film fans like me will remember Sabrina.  No, not the vastly inferior version of recent years, but the magnificent Billy Wilder original, filmed in 1954, with Audrey Hepburn in the title role.  The awkward little girl goes off to France, and comes back a sophisticated woman of the world, ready to win the man she loves.  And she began the hunt in a lovely strapless gown that won Edith Head an Oscar for Best Costume Design (black and white) — but that everyone knows was really designed by the man who became Hepburn’s favorite designer, Hubert de Givenchy.

Now this can be yours.  Baiastice is making its new collection available at its main store, and a faithful copy of Hepburn’s famous gown is available for about L$1,300.  It sure ain’t cheap; but oh, my dear —

This gown is faithful in about every detail, and comes with two pairs of glitch pants and a variety of skirts, allowing you to wear it about as you choose. As I am here, you could almost expect William Holden to walk in and ask you for a dance….
