The very first messy…I mean meshy post :) (via Villemo Inglewood)

Another blog I’ve added recently is Villemo Inglewood’s explore…dream…discover….. Here’s her take from today on the upcoming debut of meshes across the entire Grid. There are a few places you can try them out now, but you need to be a member for the most part. Read on, though, and you’ll read where you can be rad for free (as long as you’re using Viewer 3 beta).

The very first messy...I mean meshy post :) As you all know Linden Lab© started to roll out mesh to regions across the grid and all sims are supposed to be mesh enabled by September. It means a huge revolution for all residents of Second Life®, especially creators and fashion designers. If you are so impatient like me and want to experiment with mesh creations, before they become more popular than prims or sculpts, you will need to download the latest Second Life Viewer Beta.  For now it i … Read More

Sashay to Sascha’s, Babooshka!

It isn’t often I write about something that’s just been released.  But, after getting the notice from Sascha’s Designs and stopping in to look at it — and also spending some very nice time chatting with Sascha Frangilli and a pair of Dutch visitors — I decided that this was so good that it was definitely worth talking about.  The only trick was what hair to wear with the magnificent jacket.

Doesn’t look like much here, does it, if you focus on just the blue undershirt and the white pants?  (In this color choice, there’s also a pink top; but I favor red hair, as you know.)  It’s the dressy jacket that makes this iteration of the outfit so nice — one of the nicest dress jackets I’ve seen yet in my fashion history in world.

Tales from Insilico — Suffering for Her Art

Caution:  some situations in this story, and some pictures involving nudity, should be considered NSFW/NSS

Jadzia lay curled up on the cot in the side room, seriously regretting every recent moment of her existence. This has to be the last damned time, she thought to herself as the nausea began rising up again.  As she edged her head over the side of the cot to find the hurl bucket, her mind went over the past twenty-seven hours of station time….

It had been over three months since she had finally paid off the “photo-etched” skin mod she had obtained at a “black” biolab; but the attention she had hoped for from talent scouts had never come.  Jadzia knew they were jaded in appetite, of course; they had seen it all and then some, it seemed, and you really had to be maybe a parsec out there now to even catch a glimpse from them, let alone get the attention of an agent.  But she thought this mod would have done it for sure!

There was only one thing for it — to try again, or to go back to selling herself in a different way.  Being a courtesan meant peddling her body, or at least certain portions of it, but being Shayana had paid the bills.  And she had been good at it, too, pleasuring both herself and her clients, and acquiring something of a reputation for it.  But you could only do so much whoring before something started seeping into your soul.  Remembering the peace she had felt that night in Atonement, the abandoned church-turned-club, Jadzia’s small core of self-pride asserted itself, and she resolved to try one more time.  She booked the appointment — not as obviously as calling a more reputable clinic to “set up an appointment,” of course — and showed up the night specified.

Tales from Insilico — The DJ’s Freedom and Pain

Caution: one photo below potentially NSFW/NSS

Some people felt that the life of a disc jockey — an archaic name for a job that had last seen a disc of any kind hundreds of years and a galaxy ago — was a mindless grind of cuing music files, fielding requests, and hoping that the boss would cough up the promised pittance, euphemistically referred to as “pay.”

Playing DJ at a club in Insilco

Jadzia begged to differ, at least while the music played.  To Jadzia, formerly Shayana the courtesan, the music was freedom, and the music was joy, and the music was escape from the blasted hell of the streets outside the club she worked at.  She was never more at home, never more comfortable, than when she was behind the music desk, punching up songs and mixing…. Channeling Marlene Dietrich

Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do?
I can’t help it

Love’s always been my game
Play it as I may
I was born that way
I can’t help it

Or, if you prefer — and perhaps more appropriate for an electronic world — you can try this alternate version:

Failing apart again
And what am I to do
These threads take metric screws
No one stocks them

There’s no way to repair
A heart whose gaskets fail
No rivet, bolt or nai
Can correct it

Falling apart again
Poor craftsmanship, it’s true
Perhaps if I used glue…
I can’t help it

(From John M. Ford’s How Much for Just the Planet? [New York:  1987, Pocket Books and Paramount Pictures])

I was touring around a place that you wouldn’t believe I could find such a confection:  the store in the center of Omega Point, a recent — and freakin’ incredible — build that I discovered through Hamlet Au’s New World Notes.  At least some of the merchandise there is from a merchant calling themselves KWZ, about two walls worth of clothes that do not fit the Giger-esque theme of the rest of this region.

This dress, Lilly-S, is a more elaborate variation of another bustier ensemble next door in the vendors.  I was torn between the two, but went with the bigger skirt in the end.  Just look at the quality of the textures!  I can’t see a bad spot on this whole dress.  And the humor of it is wonderful — remiscent of Marlene Dietrich in Der blaue Engel, Molly Ringwald in Betsy’s Wedding, and the cover of Pink’s Funhouse.  If there’s a circus in Second Life, this would make a wonderful Ringmaster’s outfit for a woman!

As for the details:

  • Ensemble:  KWZ Lilly-S (blue/gold)  (Designer:  Kariwanz Felisimo)
  • Skin/shape:  D-Skin 36
  • Eyes:  Curious Kitties Crystal (blue)
  • Hair:  UK Couture Bobbi (black)  (Designer:  Corbantis Priestman)
  • Earrings — Amour Designs Elegant Silver (Sapphire) (Designer:  Natashya Antonelli)
  • Shoes:  Kitties Lair Peep Toe Pumps (Designer:  Babette Ultsch)

(Incidentally, this is me in the photos, not another avatar or an alt.  If you wonder why my face changes occasionally from what you see in my masthead, I don’t use alts — though I have one for testing purposes and occasional travels.  I use six different female shapes/skins, including an Asian and an African — as well as an occasional male, and a beautiful little tiny otter from Tiny TAMA.  I like to keep ’em guessin’.)

Shopping for Vinyl in Creamshop

How many have been to Creamshop region?  It’s a struggle to move around in there sometimes, as it’s an Openspace region (I thought I was going to get away from writing about these, but….)  I’m reluctant to post a landmark, but I’m trusting people won’t flock there, so to speak.  Any road, if you do go there, you’ll find an experience that beggars words to describe.  Designed with wonderful artistry and craftsmanship, the rainy moodiness of Creamshop somehow fills you with longing and joy at the same time.

Of course, the eternal drench pouring down from the skies, as eternal as the Dantëan rains of the third circle of the Inferno, can get oppressive at some point.  When I visited the other day, I ran for some shelter — being careful to watch out for the cabs in the street — into a small record store across the way from the actual Creamshop store.  In there, it was fascinating to go digging through the shelves and bins for goodies.  If I ever get a stereo capable of playing vinyl — and if the owners of the region keep it going — it might be nice to jump back and pick up some titles.

Creamshop store itself has some nice stuff, and I’m wearing some of it in these pictures.  The one problem I could have is with the muffler, which you have to edit by script.  I’ll experiment with it in future, but I’m fighting for cycles with the other half in Real Life; Kit’s (ahem) acquiring a few lectures at the moment.  So I’ll reserve judgment on that aspect for now.  In any case, enjoy!

UK Couture — Phixion Suit

Going to Nicky Ree or other places can be fun and give you all sorts of nice fashions.  Quality textures, well built in the prim attachments, nice falls of skirts, and so on.  Then you see just how much you’ve spent, and the sticker shock sets in.  The price is often justified, of course; all that effort and creativity deserves its payment, and I won’t put them down too much if they want to get reimbursed for their time.  (Unless they’re charging like a bleedin’ madman.)

But who says you always have to pay top dollar to dress fantastic?  Take a look at UK Couture.  Stylish clothes that don’t shoot your budget in the foot; what more do you want?  As proof:

uk-1_005

This outfit is called Phixion, which I have no idea what that means.  Does it matter?  It just looks good!  Black shirt, black pants (that actually cover my belly button!), and this lovely white jacket that I need to remember for other outfits in the future; and all for less than L$300, as I recall.

uk-1_008

For a smashing day look, I teamed it with the Nif Nif gloves from LeeZu Baxter.  They’re actually longer than you see here; the sleeves of the jacket cover them up, of course.  And the hair is from Pazazz, who sells fatpacks for very nice prices; sadly, this style (Spoiled) seems to have disappeared.

Shape/skin: Luscious & Lords Katelyn
Suit: UK Couture Phixion for Ladies
Eyes: Curious Kitties Crystal Eyes
Gloves: LeeZu Baxter Nif Nif (black)
Hair: Pazazz Spoiled (Raven, Sapphire tips)
Shoes: Adam n Eve Serpenti (Diablo black)
Jewelry: Kimbra Celtic Cross necklace and earrings (separate packages); watch by Virtual Impressions
