From Sascha Frangilli, of course.

This delicious number I’m wearing is named Zebra, and was a L$60 special at Sascha’s Designs last weekend. I would have liked to write about it then, but this entire weekend has been chaos in a cart, and so here I am today doing the job. I’m pretty sure this ensemble is no longer just L$60, and yet it’ll be worth every centiLinden you’ll pay (grin).
I’m not normally into animal print patterns — I don’t think you’ll ever find me wearing a leopard-skin coat, real or fake; too tacky, to me — but these pants, with their zipper pockets, appeal. They fit quite nicely, and leave room for a pair of ankle boots, such as my old standby Biddles. (I can’t tell you how many pairs of system pants — system pants, no prims! — are too large to fit under at least a pair of ankle boots.)

Then we turn to this excellent top, with just a touch of frilliness at the cuffs, and a lovely prim collar behind the head. And that neckline…! I don’t normally show off this much cleavage in RL; but in Second Life, the home of the Fiercely Fashionable,, where the bodies are as perfect as you want them to be, why not go for it?

You may notice I’m trying out a new makeup. I got a notice from Adam n Eve a few weeks ago, and went to check a new skin. I didn’t end up getting that, but I found another, Natasha, that appealed. I like the subtler eyeshadow of this, along with the redness of the lipstick (which I’m matching with a set of screaming red prim nails). On the top layer, I have a nice enhancement for those who use Viewer 2 — eyeliner from Miamai! I think that it not only improves the general look of the makeup, but helps to hide any lingering problems I may have with eyelash adjustment (grin).

O brothers mine, take care! Take care!
The great white witch rides out to-night.
Trust not your prowess nor your strength,
Your only safety lies in flight;
For in her glance there is a snare,
And in her smile there is a blight.

After seeing the original at Harper Beresford's blog (A Passion for Virtual Fashion), I had to give Eshi Otawara's "Black Gems are Forever" a shot of my own. However, I decided I'd discard the pants she had in the confection, and used an old skirt from Anubis Style instead (which I think was created for the old Rezzable "Black Swan" show, as that was the name on the gown).
The great white witch you have not seen?
Then, younger brothers mine, forsooth,
Like nursery children you have looked
For ancient hag and snaggle-tooth;
But no, not so; the witch appears
In all the glowing charms of youth….

I especially love Eshi's headdress of jet-topped pins and a "veil" of thin, flexible "wires." I've pinned it into a fri.day coiffure -- normally the SL epitome of casual style; but with this headdress added to it....
But though she always thus appears
In form of youth and mood of mirth,
Unnumbered centuries are hers,
The infant planets saw her birth;
The child of throbbing Life is she,
Twin sister to the greedy earth.

Candy Nail has an amazing variety of prim nails, including these black talons with jewels stuck all over them.
And back behind those smiling lips,
And down within those laughing eyes,
And underneath the soft caress
Of hand and voice and purring sighs,
The shadow of the panther lurks,
The spirit of the vampire lies….

Note the black jet choker and the earrings, which mirror the headdress. There's also a ring, but the nails knocked it off, of course; one of the two things I don't appreciate about prim nails, no matter how good they make you look.
Oh! she has seen your strong young limbs,
And heard your laughter loud and gay,
And in your voices she has caught
The echo of a far-off day,
When man was closer to the earth;
And she has marked you for her prey.
She feels the old Antaean strength
In you, the great dynamic beat
Of primal passions, and she sees
In you the last besieged retreat
Of love relentless, lusty, fierce,
Love pain-ecstatic, cruel-sweet.
O, brothers mine, take care! Take care!
The great white witch rides out to-night.
O, younger brothers mine, beware!
Look not upon her beauty bright;
For in her glance there is a snare,
And in her smile there is a blight.

…and look at what I picked up!

This gown, Topaz by Tres Beau, was the one major purchase I made, my single RFL contribution purchase. I’m not even sure if Tres Beau is carrying this in their store now; it may have been only for the event. But it’s a great piece of work — not perfect, but still great in many ways.

Besides all the romantic prim ruffles of the dress itself, it has this lovely evening cape. I think this is what made me unlimber my purse in the first place. Have you ever seen a little movie with Renée Zellweger and Ewan MacGregor called Down with Love? It was a love note to the frothy romantic comedies of Doris Day and Rock Hudson of the Fifties and Sixties, and the characters, especially Renée and her co-star, Sarah Paulson, get to dress in the most fabulous stuff. One scene has them entering a restaurant in these absolutely extravagant, heavy taffeta evening coats with puffy collars and mermaid hems:

This is the best shot I could find, from a copy on YouTube. (I seem to have lost my own copy of the DVD.) In a second or two, both Renée and Sarah will get the cue, and throw those coats open as they Make an Entrance into the restaurant. If this SL gown’s wrap had a collar like that, I’d love to have an animation where I could just pull that trick, and let the cape just de-rezz back into inventory as I sashay in to Frank’s Place or something similar.

Here’s the gown without the cape. Don’t you just love those prim ruffles running down the front? The two things I could wish for were a richer texture on the gown and a deeper gold color; but otherwise, I’d say Kimmera Madison has got it spot on here. Especially with details like the jeweled bow at the edge of the strapless bodice. (Digression: how many gowns have you seen in Second Life that weren’t strapless?)

This photo also gives you a look at the hairstyle I chose, and the delicious jewelry that I picked up at the Accessory Fair. I have two more wishes, I find: that the Clothing Fair lasted longer, and that they had waited a month after the Accessory Fair. That would have given me time to do more buying!
The details:
- Gown: Tres Beau Topaz (RFL contribution purchase, designed by Kimmera Madison)

- Lashes: Detour Edge
- Shoes: Taro Vella (“TV”) black evening sandals with ankle straps and bows (prim foot)

At the Ballroom of the Rose Theatre, Angel Manor region
…then I’d love to sweep up the red carpet at the Kodak Theater in something like this confection. Hair piled up over my head, glittering jewels (preferably not on loan from Tiffany’s), and a gown that both hugs me in just the right places and rustles along the scarlet rug behind me.

I’ve been so busy organizing my 2010 Oscar Fashion Contest, and then trying to get people to enter, that I hadn’t gone out to purchase my own gown for a fashion piece. But Gidge Uriza of It’s Only Fashion kindly gifted me with this delicious dress, thus saving me the need of rushing out and combing designers’ stores for something. Absolutely sensational choice, Gidge, and thank you so much!

The gown is ZieZo from Sascha’s Designs. Besides being a lovely color for red hair, I love the detail work that Sascha Frangilli puts into her work. (This teal is one of a range of colors.) And, of course, there are the Sascha’s choices for her gowns. I’m wearing the “swooshy” mermaid prim skirt here; you also have a sleeker one, and empire-waisted version (that one drops down from almost straight below the breasts, guys), and the full-glam “battleship” skirt, in plain or with star embroidery around the hem! On top of that, do you want the “plain” strapless bodice, or the one with the jewel-colored flower embroidery? And, of course, the evening gloves are included; gloves may not be in style again in the Real World, but I think they add a perfect accent for evening wear.

A new gown demands new jewels. I decided to go splashier than I usually do with jewelry — well, we’re talking the Academy Awards here, aren’t we? So I went on a shopping run, and stopped at Eclectica, who’ve I’ve also featured before, and I ended up buying about four different sets, including one I have already in a different stone color (sigh). Anyway, out of what I picked up, I settled on this necklace/earrings set as the strongest statement. Simple links of gold in back, except for the catch, turn into heavier gold settings for some lovely rubies — there’s even a glow in the stones — with pearl teardrops. I added a cocktail ring from my inventory, and some ole reliable pumps from Detour, and I was ready….

…except that I wanted something to pin in my hair tonight. Fortunately, another item from Eclectica had caught my eye in that shopping spree: this stylized dragonfly hatpin, part of a hatpin-and-brooch set. I used the hatpin as a hair ornament (after copying it!), and was ready for the limousine.

Jadzia lay curled up on the cot in the side room, seriously regretting every recent moment of her existence. This has to be the last damned time, she thought to herself as the nausea began rising up again. As she edged her head over the side of the cot to find the hurl bucket, her mind went over the past twenty-seven hours of station time….
It had been over three months since she had finally paid off the “photo-etched” skin mod she had obtained at a “black” biolab; but the attention she had hoped for from talent scouts had never come. Jadzia knew they were jaded in appetite, of course; they had seen it all and then some, it seemed, and you really had to be maybe a parsec out there now to even catch a glimpse from them, let alone get the attention of an agent. But she thought this mod would have done it for sure!
There was only one thing for it — to try again, or to go back to selling herself in a different way. Being a courtesan meant peddling her body, or at least certain portions of it, but being Shayana had paid the bills. And she had been good at it, too, pleasuring both herself and her clients, and acquiring something of a reputation for it. But you could only do so much whoring before something started seeping into your soul. Remembering the peace she had felt that night in Atonement, the abandoned church-turned-club, Jadzia’s small core of self-pride asserted itself, and she resolved to try one more time. She booked the appointment — not as obviously as calling a more reputable clinic to “set up an appointment,” of course — and showed up the night specified.

Caution: one photo below potentially NSFW/NSS
Some people felt that the life of a disc jockey — an archaic name for a job that had last seen a disc of any kind hundreds of years and a galaxy ago — was a mindless grind of cuing music files, fielding requests, and hoping that the boss would cough up the promised pittance, euphemistically referred to as “pay.”

Jadzia begged to differ, at least while the music played. To Jadzia, formerly Shayana the courtesan, the music was freedom, and the music was joy, and the music was escape from the blasted hell of the streets outside the club she worked at. She was never more at home, never more comfortable, than when she was behind the music desk, punching up songs and mixing…. Read the rest of this entry »

The rocky ledge runs far into the sea,
and on its outer point, some miles away,
the lighthouse lifts its massive masonry,
A pillar of fire by night, of cloud by day.
…
And as the evening darkens, lo! how bright,
through the deep purple of the twilight air,
Beams forth the sudden radiance of its light,
with strange, unearthly splendor in the glare!
The Lighthouse, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The lighthouse here is in Isla Menorca, and I discovered it from the opening wallpaper on Emerald Viewer. Emerald has this nifty ability to visit the place that the wallpaper picture was taken at. And Isla is an excellent place: a series of islands — not the ones set up as house lots, but far more like something on the New England or Canadian east coast of North America. A lighthouse on one of the outcroppings here would be appropriate indeed….

Once in a while, you just gotta chill and listen to the music around you. Especially when the music is as good as it is at Phat Cat’s dance club in PhatLand region. The surroundings and the sim are beautiful, and hostess Mzchevious Nitely made me feel quite at home for my first time there — hopefully not my last time!
I shot only one photograph here, and that was because I was so impressed with the pose. I can’t recall seeing a cross-legged pose before, despite being around the Grid for nearly two years now. Since then, I’ve actually run across more chairs with a cross-legged pose, but this one is my first in memory.

Most of my fashion sessions are in gowns; and I’ll admit that I love the swirl of silk and satin about me at night. (Which is a good thing, since Frank’s Place (SLurl, other articles) is my favorite club in Second Life.) “Gowns” is probably the second largest item in my Inventory after “Hair.”
But let’s face it; it isn’t nighttime all the time. (Unless you keep your environment settings locked on “sunset” or “evening.”) You gotta have the sun as well as the moon, the yang as well as the yin. And you can look just as good in casuals as you can in a floaty Nicky Ree or Baiastice.
There’s a lovely little coffeehouse in Rainforest Isle Estates called the Drip ‘n Grind. I like to pop in there once in a while when I’m not hanging out of a morning at the Blarney Stone. Not the place for a gown, most times of the day; it’s not a “rough” neighborhood, of course (who’d set up a coffeehouse in the Badlands?), but this wasn’t anywhere near after-club clubbin’ time, when you’d stop in for a cuppa joe and some pie or eggs Benedict. So something a little more casual is called for.
