Tea Time in Dublin

It’s that time of year again, when all the world begins turning green — and I’m not talking about how close spring is to officially starting.  Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day; and, as you have one red-haired cailín on hand here with a severe case of Celtophilia, and another lass willing to go along with her — well, here we are again.  We don’t quite have shamrocks tucked behind our ears, and we won’t be swilling green-dyed beer anytime soon, Second Life  or Real Life.  (Green beer’s an Americanism, anyways, and barbarous at the best of times.)  That doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with green stylin’.

Saint Patrick’s Day 2014

Blarney Stone, Saint Patrick's Day 2014

What’s Saint Patrick’s Day in Second Life without at least one stop in the Dublin regions, especially the Blarney Stone?  I was there for a time today; and, while I couldn’t hear the music (a sound-card condition I plan to remedy with a new computer before this year goes out), I could see that everyone — more beyond this photo — were having a good time.  Whenever there’s something happening in the Dublins, you should get there; the DJs are great, whichever bar or venue you stop in at.

Saint Patrick’s Day 2013

No matter where you are — even if it’s in a virtual world — March 17 brings out the Irish in you in a good way.  We don’t go in for green beer too much in world; but we do party, quite a bit.  (Hey, any good excuse for a party!)  And, even though there have been several almost continuous venues all weekend, the most traditional place to go, and probably the purist Irish experience, is in Dublin region at that grid-wide famous pub, The Blarney Stone.

Saint Patrick’s Day 2011

I always like to do a casual and formal shoot for Saint Patrick’s Day, one of the lovely holidays in world.  This year, besides the computer needing replacing, RL work and home has kept me hopping, and I haven’t been able to do many things I wanted to do.  But I did manage to squeeze in a few fast photos of this beautiful gown very early yesterday….

The dress is from PurpleMoon, and is called Serafina.  It also has a large production-show skirt that I didn’t take the time to fiddle with, but is still beautiful.  For me, this skirt is enough, along with the lovely high collar behind my head.  (I have a thing for dragon-wing collars, I guess….)  The collar is removable, of course, as is the excellent orchid-bloom detail on the breast; but who would want to do away with such niceties?  I used for hair an old ‘do from Sinsation — yes, Sinnocent Mirabeau did do some sane hairstyles during her time in world, and this is one of my nicest short bobs.  Along with this is a new eyeshadow from Miamai, one of their usual package of five at a time.

The jewelry suite of necklace and earrings came, I believe, from last year’s Jewelry Fair; it is by RH Engel, and this is the first time I’ve worn them. (Gotta clean out that inventory sometime…!)  I matched this with….

…a beautiful emerald bracelet from EarthStones, and a big, splashy, Art Deco-like cocktail ring.  Erin go bragh!!

The Wearin’ o’ the Green, SL 2009

Saint Patrick’s Day is one of those days that brings out the internationalist in you.  You could be from Pago Pago or Timbuktu, and it’d still be appropriate to wear a shamrock and shout “Erin go bragh!” to a passerby.  That’s certainly been happening in Second Life today, especially in the Dublin sectors.  It was a regular street party across the whole place, with music in the streets, a parade winding around the (virtual) River Liffey, and much downing of (virtual) Guinness.

I didn’t participate this year, though I braved the lag last year to hang out in the Blarney Stone in Dublin main region.  (How do I know what was going on?  I’m a group member at the Stone!)  Instead, I went to somewhere I haven’t visited before, the even more famous Straylight.  After all, Ireland is more than pubs; it’s also beautiful countryside, where the locals are said to recognize dozens more shades of green by eye than the rest of the world.  This poor benighted Dutch-American girl can’t say that — I can’t even recognize dozens of shades of orange, which would be more appropriate for a Dutch.  But I was happy to find spots where I could wear something green today.  (Click on the photos for larger images.)

I found this lovely outfit at Nicky Ree, and it seemed both perfect for Saint Patrick’s Day, and versatile as well.  Unlike the decadent Lindens, who pop up at office hours in guises beyond belief, I’m old school; a business meeting demands a suit.  But it doesn’t have to be charcoal grey all the time, and the deep emerald of this creation shows that.  The long duster coat dress makes this piece excellent for meetings at all but the most conservative of get-togethers.  The grace note here are the shoes, which are Foxy wedges by Stiletto Moody.  I picked them up at her last sale, and I’m unsure if they’re still available.

Want a different look?  Shorten the skirt, or even the pants (both are available in the set), and change your shoes to a pair of nice boots.  Now you have something that could still be worn to an office, but could also be worn to drinks and lunch on the town with a date.  But if that’s not enough….

…then take off the jacket completely, and use the shorts option, along with those boots.  A change of jewelry as well, and now you’re ready for a party at the pub with your mates.  Raise a glass, and toast the Saint and his beloved Eireann in style!
