Making an Entrance

Making an Entrance 1
If anyone can Make an Entrance, it’s Ariel Sherman, who (at the time of these photos) lives in the 48th Century. Cyborg, onetime unwilling “courtesan” in a pleasure house on the planet Videra,  now the owner and star artiste of her own revue, the largest and finest show in the sector! She’s earned her reputation over decades of acting, singing and dancing, and she has decades more in her future.

My mama always told me
There were two ways to come into a party
Polite and Genteel
Or Make an Entrance

Truman Capote Would Approve

Sascha's Designs in Mignonne 1

Finally, a few minutes to sit down, shoot a few photos and write!  I’ve started checking out the bare bones of Corona, the venue in Mignonne that is getting login-page and Destination Guide exposure.  I haven’t made it farther than this mansion, but it’s as luxurious and Old World regal as one could wish.

I’m visiting here in this dress from Sascha’s Designs.  Sascha Frangilli is definitely into HUD dresses lately, and this model, Joelle, is a nice one, with five different designs in black and white.  This is one of my two favorites — simple and classic.  It doesn’t need much in the way of display to liven it up, because it speaks so strongly for itself.

Sascha's Designs in Mignonne 2

The one splash I take here is in the jewelry — something big, new and frivolous from Belle Roussel, but still holding to the primarily black-and-white theme.  If Truman Capote were around to throw a Black and White Tea Party instead of a formal ball, I think that he just might approve….

O is for — Orange

In salute to the inauguration of the new King and Queen of the Netherlands, her home country, Sascha Frangilli has created a new gown named Queen Máxima, in the orange of the Royal House. It will be right in the front of the New Items section of Sascha's Designs, and at a very special price.

The first thing that occurred to me for O in Vanessa Blaylock’s alphabetical inventory challenge was orange; and this gown from Sascha’s Designs, which I featured last year for the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, is as orange as it gets.

E is for — Ebony

E is for Ebony 1

Ebony is the theme for today’s paw through my inventory; and the ebony here is represented by almost everything I’m wearing.  The hair is the item that began this plunge, an old, elaborate updo from Tukinowaguma.  Tuki hasn’t released any new styles in a very long time, but the store is still in existence, if much reduced in size from what it was at the apex of their success.  (I wonder if it was an inability to cope with the change to mesh that did them in?  Some of their longer styles could benefit from a mesh treatment, so they don’t get lost in your shoulders.)

E is for Ebony 2

The gown is also vintage, a nicely poufy piece from Sascha Frangilli; and the suite of onyx jewels come from EarthStones.  Everything is listed below.

Last of the Summer Wine

Last of the Summer Wine 1 blog

I found this little sort-of-bar thing on the crescent white-sand island here in seni seviyorum, and chose it to model five different colors of a pants outfit from Sascha’s Designs, called Pepper. It includes everything except the shoes. This color combination is called Happy.

“I know I am but summer to your heart, and not the full four seasons of the year….” — Edna St. Vincent Millay

Summer technically ended over a month back; but the heat has just really broken here in RL Alabama.  In Second Life, of course, seasons are more a function of how the sim owner wants to have them; and so I jumped in to a tropical region to take a last look at summer before I start pulling out my fleece and shearling coats in earnest.  I spotted an interesting little location, seni seviyorum, via the Places page on Koinup.  With a little persistence, you can often find someplace new and engaging to check out for posing, and I did so this time.

Even more color after the break….

A Little Touch of Sascha

Britannia Island 200,236,27 a

…O, now, who will behold
The creative captain of this fab’lous band
Walking from vendor to vendor, from patron to patron,
Let her cry ‘Praise and glory on her head!’
For forth she goes and visits all her customers;
Bids them good day with a modest smile,
And calls them sisters, friends, and fellow avatars….
She freshly draws, and over-stitches garments
With cheerful semblance and sweet majesty;
That every fashionista, pining and pale before,
Beholding her, plucks delight from her designs;
A style universal, like the sun,
Her imaginative eye doth give to every one,
Thawing drab dreariness, that avatars base and noble all
Behold, as may couturières define,
A little touch of Sascha in the night.

  • With apologies to William Shakespeare

Verily, read more after the break.

2013 Oscar Fashion Photo Contest Acquires Sponsors

Danielle logo   Sascha's logo

Around the Grid is proud to announce that we are now partnered with two of the name clothing designers of Second Life, to provide additional prizes for this year’s Oscar Fashion Photo Contest.

Sascha’s Designs, of course, is the brand created by Sascha Frangilli, and is well known for its dozens of gowns available in a myriad of configurations and skirt sizes.  You can find a dress from a mini to the largest of ball skirts at Sascha’s, and her creativity goes on and on.

Styles by Danielle, founded by designer and singer Dani Plassitz, has been growing in reputation since about 2009, with both formal and casual wear, and costumes that show a wonderful flair, daring design, and great imagination.  I’ve worn some of her costumes in past articles; my favorite is here:  “Lynxa, Daughter of La.”

With the addition of these sponsors, the prize pool now stands at:

  • 1st Place — L$2,500 cash + L$1,500 in gift certificates
  • 2nd Place — L2,000 cash + L$1,000 in gift certificates
  • 3rd Place — L$1,000 cash + L$1,000 in gift certificates
  • The 4 honorable mentions remain unchanged:  L$250 each.

Remember to read the rules at the original article, and enter soon!

3 Casual Mesh Dresses (Updated)

June 19:  updated to include SLurls; I was going to sleep when I originally started searching them out.

Today, you’re getting one massive mess of fashion — mesh dresses from some great designers.  You’ll see them in the slideshow below, in order of the description (if I’m lucky); you can pause the show and right-click, then select “View Image” (or equivalent) to see a larger view.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

coldLogic is a name that is earning lots of interest among Grid fashionistas with their mesh designs.  This dress, called Owens, fits quite nicely to your curves, though I had to tweak my shape somewhat to get the fit right.  Having never tweaked these settings before, it was probably time to do a little adjustment.  (I sometimes think I’m a little over-endowed in the boobs, anyway, so a bit of breast reduction was probably a good thing.)

Prism is a great favorite of mine, though I haven’t wrote much about Journey’s pieces lately.  I tend to think more of her knits than summer clothes.  However, the Emily mesh top and pants are shooting right up to a favorite spot for summer casual wear.

Of course, every woman who loves evening dresses has heard of Sascha’s Designs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have at least one of Sascha Frangilli’s famed “battleship-skirt” gowns in their closet.  But Sascha also does casual wear, and this, believe it or not, is her first mesh entry.  Fittingly, it’s named Mondriaan, and is as mod as it gets; but fits quite nicely into modern tastes as well.

Across the board, I’m wearing shoes from R2 Fashion, a fantastic shoe designer I discovered at Collarbor88.  I’ve been stocking up on shoes since, and am featuring her extremely stylish pumps, wedges and boots all through here.

Connie Arida Does Boho

At least it strikes me this way, with the beret and shoes she’s wearing.  Connie, one of my Grid friends, stopped in tonight to show me a trick she found for building things, and she was wearing this beautiful combo from various designers:

[20:44] Connie Arida: the dress is from Jane
[20:45] Connie Arida: sweater is from shiki but the sculpty sleeves are from another sweater..cant remember who made it
[20:45] Harper Ganesvoort: Okay if I take a picture of that?
[20:46] Connie Arida: hair is latest mesh hair from truth and beret something from sascha’s designs
[20:46] Connie Arida: sure :)
[20:46] Harper Ganesvoort: That’s Sascha???
[20:46] Connie Arida: the beret
[20:46] Harper Ganesvoort: I gotta take a look around. We forget she does other stuff than massive ball gowns.
[20:47] Connie Arida: hehe yes
[20:47] Connie Arida: its pretty old
[20:47] Connie Arida: but sits with the hair quite well

It’s the beret with the new Truth hair that really gives this that kind of Sixties beatnik feel.  Actually, though, Connie has done a photo of this herself, with a few alterations, that looks even better, as good as this one is here.  It’s the boots and the long, Swedish-straight hair that does it here.
